Screens Take Hold and Children’s Creativity Decreases - Screen-Free Parenting

Screen-Free Parenting is run by a husband-and-wife team committed to raising their kids screen-free. They support the research that shows boredom is a precursor to creativity, and their site is full of studies on kids and screens.

Studies are showing that, as screen time increases, creativity in children is decreasing, particularly for children at the most creative age, in grades K-3. Considering creativity alone has a multiplying effect, this is a bit alarming. They cite the results of the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking.

“The results indicate younger children are tending to grow up more narrow-minded, less intellectually curious, and less open to new experiences.” – Kim, 2011, p. 292
